Please read these terms carefully before making a car hire booking with Naples Car Hire in Napoli, Campania, Italy.

1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website located at naplescarhire.com (the "Site") and any vehicle hire services arranged or facilitated through it. The Site is operated on behalf of Naples Car Hire, a car hire intermediary service operating in Napoli, Campania, Italy.

By accessing the Site, submitting a booking enquiry, or completing a reservation, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms in their entirety. If you do not agree with any provision of these Terms, you must not use the Site or attempt to make a booking through it.

These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and customers of the Site, regardless of the device or method used to access it. We reserve the right to update or amend these Terms at any time without prior notice. The version published on the Site at the time of your booking will be the version that governs your reservation.

2. Eligibility Requirements

To hire a vehicle through Naples Car Hire, you must meet the following eligibility criteria at the time of collection:

2.1 Minimum Age

The minimum age to hire a standard vehicle in Napoli is 21 years. Drivers between 21 and 24 years of age are classified as young drivers and may be subject to an additional daily surcharge. This surcharge will be displayed clearly during the booking process and is non-negotiable at the pickup desk.

For premium, luxury, and large-capacity vehicles - including 7-seater minivans, prestige saloons, and high-specification SUVs - the minimum hire age is 25 years. This policy aligns with standard practices for car hire in the Campania region and cannot be waived.

2.2 Driving Licence Requirements

All drivers must hold a full, valid driving licence that has been held for a minimum of 12 months. Drivers licensed within the European Union or European Economic Area may present their national driving licence without additional documentation.

Visitors from outside the EU and EEA - including those from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and other non-EU countries - are strongly advised to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) before travelling to Italy. The IDP must be carried alongside the original national driving licence at all times when operating the hired vehicle. Failure to present the required documentation at pickup may result in the reservation being cancelled without refund.

All licence holders must ensure their licence is valid for the entire duration of the hire period. A licence that expires during the hire period will render the booking invalid and void the associated insurance coverage.

2.3 Additional Drivers

Additional drivers may be added to the booking at an extra daily charge, as disclosed during the online booking process. Each additional driver must present valid identification and a valid driving licence at collection and must satisfy the same age and licence eligibility requirements as the primary driver.

3. Bookings and Cancellations

3.1 Reservation Process

All vehicle reservations are made online through the Site. When you submit a booking request, you will receive a confirmation email to the address provided at the time of booking. This confirmation constitutes an agreement between you and the relevant vehicle supplier. You must retain this confirmation and present it at the collection point.

Reservations are subject to vehicle availability. In the unlikely event that the requested vehicle category is unavailable, a comparable or upgraded category may be offered at no additional cost. If no suitable alternative is available, a full refund will be issued.

3.2 Free Cancellation Policy

Most bookings made through Naples Car Hire include free cancellation up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time. The specific cancellation terms applicable to your reservation will be displayed on the booking confirmation page and in the confirmation email. Where free cancellation applies, refunds will be processed within 5 to 10 business days to the original payment method.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled pickup time may be subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to the first day's hire charge. Non-refundable rate bookings, where applicable, will be clearly identified as such before payment is completed.

3.3 No-Show Policy

If you fail to collect the vehicle at the agreed time and location without prior cancellation, the booking will be treated as a no-show. No-show reservations are non-refundable. The vehicle will be released for hire after a waiting period of 60 minutes beyond the confirmed pickup time, unless you have contacted the supplier directly to confirm a late arrival.

3.4 Modifications

Requests to modify an existing booking - including changes to pickup location, vehicle category, or hire dates - must be submitted as early as possible and are subject to availability and any applicable price difference. Modifications are not guaranteed and cannot be made at the pickup desk without advance agreement from the supplier.

4. Pricing and Payment

4.1 Displayed Currency and Pricing

All prices displayed on the Site are quoted in Euros (EUR) unless otherwise stated. The price shown at the time of booking confirmation is the price you will pay, subject to any optional extras selected during the booking process. Prices are subject to change and may vary based on season, vehicle availability, and hire duration.

4.2 What is Included

The base hire price includes the vehicle rental for the agreed period, standard third-party liability insurance as required under Italian law, a basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), and - where stated in the booking - unlimited mileage with no kilometre restriction. Applicable road taxes and standard breakdown assistance are also included unless the booking confirmation states otherwise.

4.3 Optional Extras

The following optional extras may be added during the online booking process and are charged separately from the base hire rate:

  • Satellite navigation (GPS) unit
  • Baby seat, child seat, or booster seat (conforming to Italian road safety standards)
  • Additional driver registration
  • Supplementary insurance upgrades including full coverage and zero-excess protection
  • Wi-Fi hotspot or portable internet device
  • Ski rack or roof box for luggage transport on routes through Campania and beyond

Extras added at the pickup desk rather than during the online booking process may be subject to higher on-the-day pricing set by the individual supplier.

4.4 Fuel Policy

The fuel policy applicable to your booking will be specified in your booking confirmation. The most common policy for car hire in Napoli is "full-to-full", meaning the vehicle is collected with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than at the time of collection, a refuelling charge will be applied at the supplier's prevailing rate, which may exceed local forecourt prices.

Some bookings may include a prepaid fuel option, which allows you to return the vehicle at any fuel level without a refuelling penalty. Details of the applicable fuel policy are always displayed before payment is confirmed.

4.5 No Deposit and Payment Method

Naples Car Hire facilitates bookings that do not require a security deposit to be placed at the time of online booking. Many partner suppliers in Napoli accept debit cards at the time of vehicle collection. However, some suppliers may require a credit card authorisation hold at pickup for incidental coverage. Where a no-deposit, no-credit-card policy applies, this will be clearly indicated within the booking flow before you confirm payment. Always review the specific supplier terms displayed at checkout.

5. Vehicle Use Rules and Prohibited Activities

5.1 Lawful Use

You agree to use the hired vehicle solely for lawful personal transportation purposes in accordance with Italian traffic law, the Codice della Strada (Italian Highway Code), and any local regulations applicable in the municipalities through which you travel, including the restricted traffic zones (ZTL - Zone a Traffico Limitato) that operate in central Napoli, Sorrento, Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, and other Campanian towns. Penalties arising from ZTL infringements are the sole responsibility of the hirer.

5.2 Prohibited Uses

The following activities are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of the hire agreement, full loss of any deposit or prepaid amount, and potential liability for damages:

  • Operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other impairing substances
  • Using the vehicle for off-road driving on unpaved, dirt, or gravel surfaces unless the vehicle is specifically designated and approved for such use
  • Participating in any form of motor racing, time trial, rally, or competitive driving event
  • Subletting, lending, or transferring the vehicle to any person not named on the rental agreement
  • Transporting the vehicle by ferry, train, or any other carrier without prior written approval from the supplier
  • Using the vehicle to transport goods or materials for commercial gain or reward
  • Driving outside the territorial boundaries agreed at the time of booking without prior written consent - this includes travel to Sicily, Sardinia, or outside Italy entirely, unless explicitly authorised
  • Overloading the vehicle beyond its manufacturer-specified passenger and cargo capacity
  • Smoking inside the vehicle - vehicles returned with evidence of smoking will be subject to a cleaning surcharge

5.3 Traffic Violations and Fines

All traffic fines, toll charges, parking penalties, and administrative fees incurred during the hire period are the sole responsibility of the driver. Where fines are issued to the vehicle supplier and subsequently passed on to Naples Car Hire or to you as the named hirer, an administrative handling fee of up to EUR 35 per incident may be charged in addition to the original fine amount.

6. Insurance and Liability

6.1 Basic Insurance Included

All vehicle hires facilitated through Naples Car Hire include, as a minimum, compulsory third-party motor liability insurance as required under Italian law (Responsabilita Civile Auto - RCA) and a standard Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). The CDW reduces your financial exposure in the event of accidental damage to the hired vehicle, subject to the applicable excess amount stated in your booking confirmation.

6.2 Excess Amounts

The standard CDW excess for most vehicle categories hired in Napoli ranges from EUR 800 to EUR 1,500 depending on the vehicle type and the supplier's policy. This excess represents the maximum amount you may be required to pay in the event of damage to the vehicle, subject to the terms of the applicable insurance policy.

6.3 Optional Insurance Upgrades

You may reduce or eliminate your excess liability by selecting one of the optional supplementary insurance products offered during the booking process, including Super Cover Zero Excess, full glass and tyre protection, and personal accident insurance. These products are provided by or on behalf of the vehicle supplier and are subject to the supplier's own insurance terms and conditions. Naples Car Hire acts solely as a facilitator in presenting these options and does not underwrite any insurance product.

6.4 Exclusions

Insurance coverage is void in circumstances including, but not limited to, damage resulting from prohibited vehicle use as described in Section 5, damage caused while the vehicle is operated by an unauthorised driver, damage resulting from driving under the influence, and damage to tyres, wheels, underbody, roof, or glass where standard CDW cover has not been upgraded to include these components. In such circumstances, you will be liable for the full cost of repair or replacement as assessed by the supplier.

7. Limitation of Liability

Naples Car Hire operates as a car hire intermediary, connecting customers in Napoli and the wider Campania region with independent vehicle suppliers. We do not own, operate, or maintain any of the vehicles listed or booked through the Site. Accordingly, our liability is limited as follows:

  • Naples Car Hire is not liable for any personal injury, property damage, or financial loss arising from the condition, mechanical failure, or use of a hired vehicle
  • Naples Car Hire is not liable for any losses arising from a supplier's failure to honour a confirmed reservation, including but not limited to costs incurred for alternative transport arrangements
  • Naples Car Hire is not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages of any kind, including loss of enjoyment, loss of income, or loss of opportunity
  • Where Naples Car Hire is found to be directly liable for a loss, our total liability to you shall not exceed the total amount paid by you for the booking in question

Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by applicable law.

8. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Italy. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms, including any question regarding their existence, validity, or termination, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Napoli, Italy, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence grants you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
